This UI allows you to quickly use a Poke Ball in battle, without having to go through the Bag menu to select a ball. The design and function of this UI emulates the Poke Ball UI used in Pokemon Scarlet & Violet, which allows you to scroll left and right through your entire Poke Ball inventory, as well as pressing a button to view details about each ball.
Accessing the UI
A "Ball" prompt will appear in the bottom left hand corner of the battle screen to indicate that you can open the Poke Ball Shortcut UI with the press of the JUMPDOWN
(S) key. This prompt will not display if UI_PROMPT_DISPLAY
is set to zero.
This prompt will also be hidden if any of the following is true:
The battle is a Trainer battle.
The battle is a Battle Tower or PvP-style battle where items cannot be used.
The disablePokeBalls Battle Rule is enabled for this battle.
The battle is a wild Safari Zone encounter, or the player is in the Bug Catching contest.
There are more than one wild Pokemon targets, preventing a ball from being thrown.
Navigating the UI
When accessed, a window will appear above the Command Menu displaying your inventory of usable Poke Balls. The specific ball that your cursor highlights by default when you open this UI will be whichever ball you last previously used or viewed in your Bag. Below the icon of each ball, there will be a number which reflects how many of that specific ball you have left in your inventory.
You can scroll through each ball in the list with the Left/Right keys. Holding either of these keys will quickly scroll in that respective direction instead. Pressing the JUMPUP
(A) and JUMPDOWN
(S) keys will instead automatically scroll you to the start or end of the list, respectively. Pressing the ACTION
(Z) key will open an additional window in this UI that will display the description of your currently highlighted ball, allowing you to view details about its specific properties.
Once you've decided on a Poke Ball you wish to use, simply press the USE
key to immediately use that Poke Ball. Note that if for some reason a Poke Ball cannot be used on the wild Pokemon (the target is out of range due to Fly/Dig, for example), then a message will display to inform you of this instead, and the ball will not be thrown.
