Raid: Raid Adventures

Section 7.C.4

Raid Adventures are a special game mode inspired by Dynamax Adventures, which were originally introduced in Pokemon Sword & Shield's Crown Tundra DLC. In this mode, the player navigated a lair by selecting pathways to take where they would encounter multiple Raid Pokemon in consecutive Raid battles. However, the player was forced to use a rental party during these fights, but could replace party members with the Raid Pokemon they captured along the way. At the end of the lair, a legendary Pokemon awaited the player.

In this plugin, the Adventures mode has been greatly expanded and made into its own unique game mode that supports any Raid type, not just Dynamax. Each Adventure takes place on a map that is broken up into a grid of squares. Each square on the grid is referred to as a "tile", and there are a variety of different tile types. Whenever the player moves onto a new tile, the effects of that tile are triggered. The goal of a Raid Adventure is to reach the lair's boss Pokemon and capture or defeat them to clear the lair.

Adventure Styles

Just like with Raid Dens, Raid Adventures can be challenged in a variety of different styles that highlight certain battle gimmicks. Below, I'll cover all of the Adventure styles that are supported by default.

Raid Adventure

These are the default basic style of Adventure. During these Adventures, you will encounter a series of Basic Raid battles with random wild Pokemon. The boss found within the lair will always be a random legendary Pokemon.

Any Pokemon with the Legendary flag in its PBS data who is also found in RaidRanks 6 is qualified to appear as the boss during a Raid Adventure.

The type of each Raid Pokemon found in the lair will be displayed under their silhouette. If the Pokemon has multiple types, then a random one is selected to be displayed. This can be used to help you determine which path to take based on what your current party matches up best with.

Ultra Adventure

These are a style of Adventure that is built around the Z-Move mechanic. During these Adventures, you will encounter a series of Ultra Raid battles with random wild Pokemon. The boss found within the lair will always be either Solgaleo, Lunala, Ultra Necrozma, or a random Ultra Beast species.

Any Pokemon with the UltraBeast flag in its PBS data who is also found in RaidRanks 6 is qualified to appear as the boss during a Raid Adventure. Note that any Pokemon encountered during an Ultra Adventure will be in its Ultra Burst form, if it has one (such as Necrozma).

Note that if the FILTER_ADVENTURE_STYLES_BY_GENERATION setting is set to true, only species and forms introduced in Generation 7 will naturally appear in the lair.

The held Z-Crystal of each Raid Pokemon found in the lair will be displayed under their silhouette. This can be used to help you determine which path to take based on what your current party matches up best with.

Dynamax Adventure

These are a style of Adventure that is built around the Dynamax mechanic. During these Adventures, you will encounter a series of Max Raid battles with random wild Pokemon. The boss found within the lair will always be a random legendary Pokemon.

Any Pokemon with the Legendary flag in its PBS data who is also found in RaidRanks 6 is qualified to appear as the boss during a Raid Adventure. Note that any Pokemon encountered during a Dynamax Adventure may also be found in its Gigantamax form, if it has one. Any species with an Eternamax form, however, will always be found in that form (such as Eternatus).

Note that if the FILTER_ADVENTURE_STYLES_BY_GENERATION setting is set to true, only species and forms introduced in Generation 8 will naturally appear in the lair.

The type of each Raid Pokemon found in the lair will be displayed under their silhouette. If the Pokemon has multiple types, then a random one is selected to be displayed. This can be used to help you determine which path to take based on what your current party matches up best with.

Terastal Adventure

These are a style of Adventure that is built around the Terastallization mechanic. During these Adventures, you will encounter a series of Tera Raid battles with random wild Pokemon. The boss found within the lair will always be either Terapagos, Ogerpon, or a random Paradox species.

Any Pokemon with the Paradox flag in its PBS data who is also found in RaidRanks 6 is qualified to appear as the boss during a Raid Adventure. Note that any Pokemon encountered during a Terastal Adventure will be in its Terastal form, if it has one (such as Terapagos/Ogerpon).

Note that if the FILTER_ADVENTURE_STYLES_BY_GENERATION setting is set to true, only species and forms introduced in Generation 9 will naturally appear in the lair.

The Tera type of each Raid Pokemon found in the lair will be displayed under their silhouette. This can be used to help you determine which path to take based on what your current party matches up best with.

Adventure Modes

When attempting a Raid Adventure, there may be certain modes that you unlock as you play that can alter the way future Adventures play out. Below, I'll go over the various modes that can be unlocked or selected for your Adventures.

Normal Adventure

This is a standard Adventure that takes place on a map of your choosing. This is the only mode available to the player by default.

Saved Adventure Routes

If you ever make it to the boss of a lair but are ultimately unable to defeat them, you will be given the option to save the route to that particular boss Pokemon so that they may be challenged again in a future attempt.

If so, the next time you initiate an Adventure of the same style that you found that boss in, you will be given the option to play a special Adventure where you are guaranteed to encounter that Pokemon as a boss again, instead of having the boss randomized. This can be useful if you encountered a species you really want to capture, but just didn't have the right party or strategy the first time around.

You can only save up to three routes per Adventure style. If you want to save a new route while you already have three saved, you will be asked if you'd like to delete an old one to make room. If you successfully clear a saved route, that route will automatically be deleted from your saved routes.

Note that while you are guaranteed to encounter the same boss species again while playing through a saved route, the rest of the Pokemon encountered in the lair will still be randomized, and not the same ones found the first time around.

Endless Mode

After the player successfully clears a Normal Adventure for the first time, they will automatically unlock Endless Mode. Once Endless Mode is unlocked, the option to play in this mode will appear whenever you initiate an Adventure.

While playing in Endless Mode, the Adventure will not end after defeating the lair's boss. Instead, the map will reset, and entirely new Pokemon will be randomly generated to repopulate the lair. Each reset counts as a new "floor" of the lair, which will be kept track of in the top right corner of the screen.

Your Adventure doesn't end until you run out of hearts or manually quit the Adventure. Whenever you reach a new floor that you've never gotten to before, a new record will be set. This record can be viewed by you at any time, and will display the floor number, the number of battles you cleared, and the party you used to reach that floor with.

Darkness Mode

After the player successfully sets a new record in Endless Mode for the first time, they will automatically unlock Darkness Mode. Unlike Endless Mode, however, Darkness Mode is not selectable by the player. Instead, every Adventure the player initiates may randomly be in Darkness Mode.

While playing in Darkness Mode, there will be limited visibility while exploring the lair. Only a small circle of visible space surrounding the player will be displayed, while the rest of the lair will be covered in total darkness. This provides an extra challenge, since navigating the lair will be more difficult when you can't properly see which paths lead where, or what the next Raid Pokemon might be.

However, each time a Raid Pokemon is defeated, the radius of visible space will increase slightly. The more Raid Pokemon you defeat, the more you will be able to see what you're doing. This adds extra incentive to winning more battles while playing in this mode. Another way to increase your visibility is by collecting Flares, which may be lying around the map.

Note that it's possible for Endless and Darkness Modes to stack with each other, allowing you to play an Endless Adventure with the additional Darkness Mode handicap. While playing with both modes active, the player's visibility will reset to its lowest value each time a new floor is reached and the map resets. So each floor will remain just as challenging as the last.
